This theater, built in 1932, has been a performance space for generations. Our goals are to preserve the space and to keep it affordable for Seattle’s performing arts community.
KEEPING THE SPACE AFFORDABLE FOR ARTISTS
In the face of rising costs we are accomplishing those goals through the generous support of our non-profit arm and through private event rentals. Through these efforts we underwrite a substantial portion of the costs associated with keeping the theater doors open, the equipment and space maintained, and staffed with professional house managers.
MINDING THE GAP
Despite our efforts, there is still a gap between the current income to underwrite the space and the costs associated with performances. We bridge that gap by having artists using the space pay nominal fees for the space. In turn, we allow artists using the theater to set their own ticket prices and keep all the money from those sales. With this model, even beginning artists can make money at their art. We dream of a day when our fund-raising efforts produce enough funds to reduce and even eliminate the rental fees.
