Roots and Wings – A Cabaret About Life’s Twists and Turns

Join Laura Ward Collins with Stephanie Lynne Smith on piano at the Jewelbox on Friday Feb 9th, as she sings and shares her fascinating life story in song. She can’t wait to take you along on this musical journey! Travel down the road of songs from musical theater, Broadway, and the Great American Songbook, as well as some of pop’s biggest hits, some cabaret, and a sprinkling of jazz.

Special guests also include:

Adam Roper, Portland based actor and singer

Iris Miller-Sherman, Seattle based singer-songwriter

Laura Ward Collins was born into a family with roots in the early years of Broadway (her great-great Uncle was the director, producer and playwright, George Abbott). She spent much of her childhood on the stage, and had a voice performance minor in undergraduate. But the greater “stage of the world” called her and Laura spent many years overseas and then in the U.S. doing meaningful work in international development and non-profit management. Laura sang at various times in chamber groups or choirs, but got back to serious solo work a few years ago. She now studies with Edward Sayegh and James Snyder in LA, and works with Stephanie Lynne Smith in Portland.

Stephanie Lynne Smith is a Producer, Performance Coach, and Pianist with studios in San Francisco and Portland. For ten years, she toured with Broadway veteran Franc D’Ambrosio (Phantom of the Opera), and was touring pianist and slide guitarist for Bugs Bunny at the Symphony, performing with the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. Currently on staff at Resound NW: A Place to Sing, she is also the newest member of Northwest Piano Trio. Stephanie is so happy to be in Seattle to make music with her good friend and kindred spirit, Laura Ward Collins.
