Are you always the funniest one at the party? Have you written out jokes that you’ve been too afraid to try on stage? Are you depressed? Then you may be looking for this class.

Learn how to go from nothing to a performing a 5-min set live onstage from Stephanie Nam, comedian, producer, and not a white dude. Stephanie was inspired to teach this class because one too many white dudes asked her to teach them how to start comedy and she deserves to be paid for that labor.

– Wednesdays 10/5, 10/12, 10/19 from 7-9:30PM
– Graduation show: Wednesday 10/26, 7pm

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This class is aimed at beginners to standup comedy. You do not need any experience to attend although those with some experience are welcome also. The class will require “performing” in front of your peers each week along with homework assignments that will help you to develop your own material. It will end with a performance at a graduation showcase.

This class is open to anyone ages 21+ (due to venue restrictions). Proof of full vaccination is required. The class is capped at 14 students.

LOCATION

The Grotto at the Rendezvous. The grotto is in the basement down one flight of stairs, which is not ADA accessible. The graduation show will be held in the Jewelbox Theater (68 capacity) at the Rendezvous on the ground floor, which is ADA accessible.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Stephanie Nam is a Seattle-based comedian and producer. Her awkward charm has won over tens of people. She is a stereotypical Capricorn and you will see that in the rigor of this course.

Stephanie produces MEN AREN’T FUNNY, JUST A PHASE, and MODEL MINORITY, comedy showcases that highlight underrepresented voices and is a co-producer at the Comedy Nest. She has been in All Jane Comedy Festival and Asian Comedy Festival. You can email her at hello@stephanienam.com with any questions or concerns about this class.

SLIDING SCALE & SCHOLARSHIP INFO

Sliding scale tickets helps keep the class accessible. It is based on what you can afford. No proof is required. $200 is the base rate and paying above the base in the sliding scale helps fund scholarships. If cost is a barrier, but you’d like to take this class, please apply for a scholarship here.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

“This was the best class I’ve ever taken, and I went to college.” – Lindsey

“Helped me gain confidence to actually perform Stand up!! Before I would always watch and never have the confidence to get up on stage, but in class, Stephanie got us comfortable being on stage. Great environment to try out jokes and get constructive and helpful feedback on stage presence and perfomance.” – anonymous

“The best $200 I’ve ever spent.” – KT

“I have ADHD, and this class was really helpful as I’ve always wanted to do stand-up comedy but didn’t know where to start and didn’t have the ability to figure it all out myself.” – Vivien

“Stephanie gave us stage time from the very first day of class, and I found this full immersion method to be so essential to getting comfortable on-stage.” – Kelsie

“This class was great. It gives you 2 things. It gives the ability and the confidence to go up on stage and get a laugh, and it also gives you an amazing community of friends that you can go and do more comedy with after the class.” – Bec

“Stephanie and Jaleesa are super supportive but more importantly they aren’t preparing you for an open mic they are preparing you for your first theater show. Your graduation show will be performed in front of a live theater audience that can launch your comedy career. Take it from Jade you can do it.” – Mushroom Guy

“I loved the class. It was a really nice introduction. If you need just a little love and an extra confidence boost. And this was a surrounding loving environment that helped me.” – Jo
