SUMMARY:UNCOVERED GOLD: A Burlesque Birthday Bash 50 Years in the Making
DESCRIPTION:5 decades down and many more to go\, Miss Violet DeVille is turning 50 and she wants to celebrate it with you. Two days after she celebrates the anniversary of coming into the world\, she wants to celebrate all over again with you! She’s bringing some of her favorite burlesque performers to the Jewelbox Theatre! For filthy fifties\, she’s going to partake in two of her favorite pleasures: burlesque and cover songs!\n“The best covers fall into one of two camps\,” said creator\, Miss Violet DeVille. “The first is the cover that pays homage to the original\, while the second is a cover that takes the song and makes something different yet harkens back to the original. Two examples are Metallica’s cover of Turn the Page and Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt. The former is a stunning homage to the original and the latter is a paragon of an artist making the song their own.”\nUNCOVERED GOLD: A Burlesque Birthday Bash 50 Years in the Making is October 1st at the Rendezvous Jewelbox Theatre\, located at 2322 2nd Ave in Seattle. Uncovered Gold is hosted by Boom Boom L’Roux and features performances from Miss Violet DeVille\, DasBee\, Moxie Blue\, Scandal from Bohemia\, Morgue Anne\, Morgan LaMay\, and Dahlia Ste. Cyr. Tickets for the Front Row (with a birthday present\, no less!) are $40\, tickets for Second Row seating are $30\, General Admission is $20\, and all tickets are available at http://pdpr.biz/gold. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the show begins at 7:00 pm.\nCOVID guidelines and precautions are in effect.\n• Audience members need to mask up when not eating or drinking.\n• Masking is required when interacting with a member of the cast or crew.\n• Proof of vaccination is required to attend the show. There will be no refund for non-compliance.\nDisposable masks will be available for sale at the box office.

SUMMARY:Learn Standup Comedy: a 4-week course (October 2022)
DESCRIPTION:Are you always the funniest one at the party? Have you written out jokes that you’ve been too afraid to try on stage? Are you depressed? Then you may be looking for this class. \nLearn how to go from nothing to a performing a 5-min set live onstage from Stephanie Nam\, comedian\, producer\, and not a white dude. Stephanie was inspired to teach this class because one too many white dudes asked her to teach them how to start comedy and she deserves to be paid for that labor. \n\n– Wednesdays 10/5\, 10/12\, 10/19 from 7-9:30PM\n– Graduation show: Wednesday 10/26\, 7pm \nWHO IS THIS FOR? \nThis class is aimed at beginners to standup comedy. You do not need any experience to attend although those with some experience are welcome also. The class will require “performing” in front of your peers each week along with homework assignments that will help you to develop your own material. It will end with a performance at a graduation showcase. \nThis class is open to anyone ages 21+ (due to venue restrictions). Proof of full vaccination is required. The class is capped at 14 students. \n\nLOCATION \nThe Grotto at the Rendezvous. The grotto is in the basement down one flight of stairs\, which is not ADA accessible. The graduation show will be held in the Jewelbox Theater (68 capacity) at the Rendezvous on the ground floor\, which is ADA accessible. \n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR \nStephanie Nam is a Seattle-based comedian and producer. Her awkward charm has won over tens of people. She is a stereotypical Capricorn and you will see that in the rigor of this course. \nStephanie produces MEN AREN’T FUNNY\, JUST A PHASE\, and MODEL MINORITY\, comedy showcases that highlight underrepresented voices and is a co-producer at the Comedy Nest. She has been in All Jane Comedy Festival and Asian Comedy Festival. You can email her at hello@stephanienam.com with any questions or concerns about this class. \n\nSLIDING SCALE & SCHOLARSHIP INFO \nSliding scale tickets helps keep the class accessible. It is based on what you can afford. No proof is required. $200 is the base rate and paying above the base in the sliding scale helps fund scholarships. If cost is a barrier\, but you’d like to take this class\, please apply for a scholarship here. \n\nSTUDENT TESTIMONIALS \n“This was the best class I’ve ever taken\, and I went to college.” – Lindsey \n“Helped me gain confidence to actually perform Stand up!! Before I would always watch and never have the confidence to get up on stage\, but in class\, Stephanie got us comfortable being on stage. Great environment to try out jokes and get constructive and helpful feedback on stage presence and perfomance.” – anonymous \n“The best $200 I’ve ever spent.” – KT \n“I have ADHD\, and this class was really helpful as I’ve always wanted to do stand-up comedy but didn’t know where to start and didn’t have the ability to figure it all out myself.” – Vivien \n“Stephanie gave us stage time from the very first day of class\, and I found this full immersion method to be so essential to getting comfortable on-stage.” – Kelsie \n“This class was great. It gives you 2 things. It gives the ability and the confidence to go up on stage and get a laugh\, and it also gives you an amazing community of friends that you can go and do more comedy with after the class.” – Bec \n“Stephanie and Jaleesa are super supportive but more importantly they aren’t preparing you for an open mic they are preparing you for your first theater show. Your graduation show will be performed in front of a live theater audience that can launch your comedy career. Take it from Jade you can do it.” – Mushroom Guy \n“I loved the class. It was a really nice introduction. If you need just a little love and an extra confidence boost. And this was a surrounding loving environment that helped me.” – Jo \n\nFlyer design by Stephanie Nam. ©2022 Stephanie Nam

SUMMARY:MOMMYHEADS and GOLDENBOY
DESCRIPTION:MOMMYHEADS \nA leading light in the mid-1990s indie rock scene\, the Mommyheads were formed in 1987 and quickly became a presence at the famous CBGB’s in NYC. The original lineup relocated to San Francisco in 1990 and were complimented by Michael Holt on keys/vox and Dan Fisherman on drums. Jeff Palmer (of SST’s Sister Double Happiness) later joined on bass and it was this lineup whose brilliance was crystallized on 1994’s Flying Suit and the 1995 fan favorite Bingham’s Hole that impressed Don Was enough to ensure support for their 1997 Geffen release. After a 10-year hiatus and bassist Jeff Palmer joining emo outfit Sunny Day Real Estate\, the band reunited in 2008 and would go on to produce seven more full-lengths\, all charting high in the Top 100 of College and Community radio. Their recent output has also garnered glowing reviews; Relix proclaiming “the Mommyheads are the Godfathers of Baroque Prog Pop” and Stereo Embers boasting “they are more creatively alive then they’ve ever been” \nGOLDENBOY \nGolden Boy is the Portland\, OR-based\, pop-rock project of singer-songwriter Ian Mullin. The self-titled debut album features lyric-driven songs underlain by harmony-soaked melodies. The subtle poetry\, glossed-over humor\, and elaborate arrangements make Golden Boy a multi-faceted project\, jam-packed with artistic detail\, as is emblematic of this hyphenated/compound adjective-laden description. \nDoors 6pm / Show 6:30pm \n21+ \nADA Accessible
